About the walk:

Enochdhu is from the Gaelic ‘An t-Aonach Dubh’ (black moor or hill).

There are many standing stones in the area. Two are close to our route. Ardle’s grave is in the front garden of the lodge at Dirnanean at the start. It has a large standing stone at one end. Ardle (from which Strathardle got its name) or Chief ‘Ard-Fhuil’ was killed fighting Danish raiders in 903AD and buried here with two of his men. On our return, near a track junction at map reference 073 644, watch out for another standing stone. This one can be precisely dated and attributed as it was erected by Alistair McRae, an estate worker, in 1988!

The walk itself is circular following the burn(stream) of Allt Doire nan Eun onto open moorland before returning through Calamanach Wood, a partly open plantation, to Enochdhu.
