Dunkeld - Loch of the Lowes

Distance: app 6km/4 miles. Ascent 160m.
Start: Bus leaves Royal Hotel, Blairgowrie at 13:00
Finish: Dunkeld at 15:30 - bus leaves for Blairgowrie at 16:00.
Limit: 15
Notes: Easy. Stout walking footwear and waterproofs.  Packed lunch required

About the walk:

This walk starts and finishes in the very interesting small town of Dunkeld with its mediaeval cathedral, restored 17^th century buildings and Thomas Telford bridge (1809) over the Tay. The bridge was the site of several anti-toll riots until it was adopted by the county council in 1869 and the toll gates removed. 

We will visit Loch of (the) Lowes where the Scottish Wildlife Trust have a reserve famous for its Ospreys in the summer months.  The visitor centre, which is normally closed at this time of year, will be opened specially for us and a talk by a ranger about the local wildlife will be arranged. The Ospreys may have gone but there is still plenty to see around the loch at this time of year.
